This magnificant example of the engravers' Art is a detail taken from the brass to Marguerite de Scornay, Abbess of Nivelles. It depicts the enthroned Virgin holding the child Jesus, whose hand (on the complete brass) points towards the kneeling Abbess. It is interesting to note that his brass barely escaped destruction during the German bombing raid on Nivelles in 1940 because the inscription beneath it was split and curled into a cylinder by the intense heat of the fire. Really mint condition! Absolutely nothing wrong with it!!!
