EVERYTHING WORKS AND SOUNDS AMAZING Sony BDV-E770W Highlights 1000 Watts of RMS Power Blu-ray Disc Player Included x.v.Color For the Best Picture Possible Includes Microphone to Calibrate System 3-D And DLNA Ready With Firmware Update Wireless S-AIR Surround Speakers Multiple Surround Sound Processors Wi-Fi Enabled One Gigabyte of Memory Included BRAVIA Sync Features Imagine getting a true 5.1 channel home theater system with the speakers and a Blu-ray player included. You're imagining the Sony BDV-E770W 5.1 Channel Home Theater System. But this is no figment of your imagination. It's real, it's here and you can get yours at a surprisingly affordable price. The BDV-E770W is a full 1000 watt 5.1 channel "home theater in a box." The five speakers include the front left and right speakers (what we called "stereo" in the olden days) the surround left and right speakers (for that immersive feeling) and the center speaker (which helps keep the dialogue loud and clear). The "point one" is the subwoofer, which pumps out the deep bass that helps make adventure movies and console games so much fun. If you're not looking forward to running wires through your living room you'll love the fact that the surround speakers are connected to the main unit wirelessly using Sony's S-AIR technology. You can also send audio to up to 10 rooms from a single BDV-E770W. Just add optional Sony S-AIR receiver/speaker systems in each room. It's great for parties when you want to pipe the music throughout the house. The BDV-E770W is x.v.Color compatible, which means it can pass more than a billion colors from its Blu-ray player to your compatible HDTV. That's actually more than the human eye can discern but it's not some kind of marketing gimmick. It smoothes out banding that can occur even in HD signals. You can't get a more vivid and lifelike picture. Now here's the part you're going to really love. (And it'll impress your friends too.) No two home listening environments are the same. A potted plant here, a bookcase there, curtains over there and audio signals can be absorbed and ricocheted all over the place. Your E770W is programmed to "know" how it's supposed to sound in an ideal listening venue. You plug in the included calibration microphone and place it at your listening position. Then you simply use the on-screen menu to start the auto-calibration check. In half a minute or so of some beeping from each speaker your E770W will "know" how to adjust its sound output to match your room acoustics and it will save the information in its memory. If you add or subtract some furniture or move your unit to another room you can repeat the test and store the new results. Who would have expected such sophisticated technology from such an affordable system? If you're already convinced the BDV-E770W is a great system (and especially if you're not) you should know that Sony is working on a firmware update for release later in 2010. The update will make your BDV-E770W compatible with 3-D discs and other 3-D programming. (You'll need a compatible HDTV, 3-D glasses, and something to watch, like any of the many 3-D movies coming on the market.) Have you heard about DLNA yet? The Digital Living Network Alliance is an industry group promoting a standard way for compatible devices to share content on a home network. DLNA capability will also be part of that firmware update. If you're picky about film audio the E770W was made for you. It's got more than a dozen surround sound codecs from Dolby and DTS. You'll have a blast auditioning all of them. Remember DVDs? They're still around and your E770W can play them. But we're thinking of DVD "extras" like added commentary tracks, "making of" shorts and so on. You probably know by now that on Blu-ray discs the extras can actually extend beyond the disc. A network-enabled player like your E770W can get additional information off the Internet. So a disc that shows a trailer for Iron Man 2 this year might show a trailer for Iron Man 3 next year! You can also enjoy tons of free, paid and subscription based content and services. To make getting on the Net as easy as possible your E770W has Wi-Fi capability so you can use a wireless router attached to your broadband connection and it also includes 1 GB of memory built in, which is required for local storage of downloaded content. Do you have a Sony TV with BRAVIA Sync? Well now you can use it because your E770W has it too. BRAVIA Sync is Sony's brand of the HDMI (CEC) standard. This enables you to control both devices from a single remote (either the home theater's or the TV's). Now if one of the remotes slips between the couch cushions you can use the other one to control the entire 1000 Watts of 5.1 Channel Surround Sound Audio Power Replicate the theater
