Dimensions: 25.5 D X 32 W X 69 H Description of game play: Become Indiana Jones! Free kidnapped children by finding their cages and whipping them open. Jump into the mines for a wild ride on a mine cart. Make it to the bottom, and then grab the Sankhara stone from the altar. Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom was produced by Atari Games in 1985. The storyline of the game followed the climax of the film in a multi-level game which loops the rescue of Mayapore's children and the mine car chase until Indiana Jones finally confronts Mola Ram. Inside the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones uses his whip to fend off attacks from Thuggee guards, cobras and bats and climbed around the ledges of the caves to free the enslaved children. After liberating all the children, he boarded a mine car, and raced through the caves, avoiding broken tracks and pursuing Thuggees. Finally reaching the altar area of the temple, he avoided lava and guards and retrieved one of the Sankara Stones. After repeating the entire process three times to free all the children and collect all the Sankara Stones, Jones escaped from the Temple on a bridge, where he had a final showdown with Mola Ram, who had previously harassed Jones in his quest by throwing flaming hearts at him. The game uses an eight-directional joystick with a single button (for the whip). The game has three different difficulty levels, which are selected in an introductory screen. It was one of the first arcade games to use digitized speech clips on the Atari. Game structure: Rescue children on ladder/ledge scrolling map Mine Car Chase Grab Sankara Stone in temple Repeat 3 times, and on fourth loop, replace Sankara Stone level with Bridge Escape level (in Medium and Hard modes) Move onto more difficult level and continue. As the game starts out, you can pick between easy, normal and hard by choosing which doorway in a limited amount of time. The game is mostly in a top down perspective with those thugee guards chasing you with a goal of rescuing the imprisoned children and getting out of the area. You run around swinging your whip which stuns guards, kills snakes, and helps you swing across to other platforms. After these sections of the game (which there are like three maps of you running around and rescuing kids) you are then thrown onto a mine cart chase level. If you don't lose lives in the other stages, you can count on losing lives here. These stages are notorious for having you run into dead ends, get attacked by bats, hit by that big scary guy that is like the leader of the thugee guards, and or get hit by other mine carts. Not to mention you can end up moving at breakneck speeds and you just hope you escape with most of your lives intact. Once you get past these, you have to collect one of the Sakara stones which involves you running up to the altar, grab the stone, and run before the game drops you into magma. There are guards around and open doors you need to race to. Eventually this ends with the bridge fight in a final encounter with Mola Ram. Beat this, then the game puts you in an endless endurance of finding golden statues while that prince runs around with your voodoo doll. This game crams everything from the film in this. This arcade is leagues beyond the video game ports and definitely the best representation of the film. This is the only Indiana Jones arcade in existence and it's too bad Last Crusade never had the arcade treatment. This has become my fifth favorite arcade of all time and that will never change. Fortune and Glory, kid. Fortune and Glory.
