Dimensions: Width 47 1/2" (120.5cm) Height 75 3/4" (192.5cm) Depth 25 3/8" (64.5cm) Original price $8,000 Beautiful Early 19th Century Chinese Red Lacquered Wedding Cabinet, the front hand painted with landscape scenes with trees, pagoda, bridges & figures in black outline with gilt highlights. Two doors with two drawers below. Doors open to reveal a shelf with two drawers & a lift up lid below this which when removed reveals a further storage space. Good quality solid elm carcass & original bronze lockplates. Black lacquered panelled ends. A lovely, early 19th Century example that would make a stunning centrepiece to any room. The lacquer is a resin made from the sap of the Rhus verniciflua tree. Lacquer has a long history in Chinese furniture and has been used for over 2000 years. This lacquer cabinet come mostly from Shanxi Provinces.
