Vintage rattan wicker bentwood lounge easy chair and ottoman Palecek Deco Palm Beach tropical Victorian 40s 70s Hawaiian This is a beautiful lounge chair with ottoman done in traditional bentwood rattan wicker style. It was very popular in the Victorian era as people brought back furniture from Asia and tropical climes. It was also popular in the '40s as Hawaiian and other Asian influence became popular in America and also, Palm Beach art Deco style became trendy It was also popular in the '70s and late '60s as yacht Rock and relaxed tropical lifestyles were once again popular in the American consciousness. It also intersected nicely with the rustic and handcrafted aesthetic that was popular. Then it remained popular throughout the '80s and '90s as classic style with 40s and '50s influence was popular. People still appreciated high quality and classic design. This chair was made by the famous palecek company. The founder that it was named for was a pilot in Asia in the '60s and settled in San Francisco and wanted to bring some of the styles he had seen in Asia to the US. It was an instant hit and they are one of the dominant founders of the trend and style. They were well known for high quality and classic timeless design. They still exist and still sell great furniture but I don't think they sell anything like this anymore. They still sell rattan and such but it is a bit more modern in design. This classic set gives an heir of the exotic, adventure, balmy breezes and gentle music. It would fit perfectly into a Victorian cottage or sitting room design, or a Hollywood regency or Palm Beach 30s 40s decor. Or the perfect addition to the home tiki lounge as you sit and enjoy a daiquiri or pina colada. Or you can go full on 70s and sip pink champagne while listening to your favorite yacht Rock. Perfect for any kind of regency or Victorian or Hollywood regency, Palm spring, Hawaiian, eclectic, maximalist or Grand millennial decor. Condition is quite good for its age. I can't say for sure but I believe this is from the '80s or '90s given the label tag design. But the style is all classic. Chair and ottoman are sturdy and solid with no damage. There are a few minor breaks in the wicker that I have shown in the pictures. They are pretty slight. Perhaps could benefit from a little bit of glue but I don't know if that's necessary. I don't think it will get worse if treated with respect . The finish on the wicker has worn a little bit. It looks a little more white in the pictures than it really is and I don't think any treatment is necessary for preservation or appearance. It has a nice slightly patinaed look that hints at adventures and history without looking beat up at all. But, if you prefer, with a little research for the best approach, something like a little lightly tinted sealer or finish might be appropriate. But not necessary. Price is for both pieces, the chair and ottoman. Not willing to split up. They've been together this long, I think they deserve to stay together. Available in Northeast Seattle.
