I purchased a 2008 BMW 135i from Transit Motors (salesperson: Moe) in February 2024. Below is a factual summary of issues encountered shortly after the purchase, based on mechanic reports and component inspections.

Vehicle History Misrepresented
Moe described the car as a recent trade-in. I was later able to contact the previous owner directly and confirmed that the car had been off the road and sitting at Transit Motors for several years.

Inspection Request Refused
Moe declined my request for a pre-purchase inspection, citing Illinois regulations. I later confirmed with multiple used car professionals in Illinois that no such regulation prohibits pre-purchase inspections.

Check Engine Light Within 1 Hour
The CEL came on 45 minutes into my return drive to Detroit. Moe suggested this was likely due to low fuel or a scheduled maintenance alert. A BMW-certified technician later diagnosed the car as missing catalytic converters—causing the light to trigger after ~50 miles. Diagnostic tools showed that fault codes had been recently cleared, likely just before my visit.

Turbo Condition Misrepresented
Moe claimed the turbos had been recently replaced and provided a link to a replacement kit. When they failed in June 2024, I found they were dated 2008—original equipment.

TPMS Issue Misdiagnosed
I was told the tire pressure light was due to missing TPMS sensors and would resolve with new ones. In reality, the TPMS control module had failed due to water damage. A technician flagged it as a potential fire hazard (photo available).

Oil Leak Understated
When I noticed oil under the hood, Moe explained it was likely from a recent oil change. After a 4-hour drive, the oil level had dropped to 50% and the engine bay was covered. The oil filter housing gasket was leaking and required immediate replacement. Transit Motors reimbursed the parts, but not the labor.

Improper Alternator Pulley
The serpentine belt began shredding every 500–700 miles. My mechanic eventually identified the root cause: the alternator pulley had 6 grooves instead of the required 7, forcing the belt to rub against the engine. The previous owner had the vehicle for 9 years and 50,000 miles with no related issues. It is unlikely this condition existed before Transit Motors' possession of the vehicle.

I acknowledge my own responsibility in not conducting a more thorough inspection. However, the volume and nature of the issues outlined above suggest systemic misrepresentation, lack of transparency, and questionable business practices.

Lancer Evo X's in good condition without a lot of mods and tuning are hard to find... well I stumbled on this beauty in Calumet City - and I'm from Arkansas... Buying a car online without even stepping foot in the dealership was nerve-wracking, but I lucked out with having Moe as my point of contact for this purchase. He was amazing to work with, as was Ali! I wouldn't have been able to complete the transaction otherwise. They didn't let me walk away unhappy. I'm more than thrilled with my new-to-me Evo!

Moe & Ali were a pleasure to work with - and Moe went above and beyond to make sure that every question I had related to this car was answered - and he even got to joke with me some about a "bluetooth" top-off whenever I discovered some leaks of coolant in my garage after my car was initially test driven after it had been delivered. Never even heard of such a thing - even being in tech - and Moe had to help clarify what he meant - now I know!

I did have concerns regarding some of my mechanic's findings upon a full end-to-end inspection (within the "State of Illinois Engine-Lemon Law" period of coverage), but most of the issues were all things that happen with age over time (2010-2023's seen a lot of wear and tear due to weathering and driving). Moe was a saint and kept up with me during the entire process and helped provide insight for most of the discoveries we had found. A couple of trips to O'rilleys later, an order for a replacement coolant overflow tank, plus finally acclimating to the change in weather & barometric pressure later . . . all is good, and I'm a happy camper.

Would recommend anyone looking for a VIN-checked | legitimate Evo to check out Transit Motors, and ask for Moe! He said that they try to keep them in stock, but they go pretty fast - so keep your eyes peeled!

I came here looking for a specific car and Alex really helped me. He didn't try pushing the sale he was extremely transparent and really took his time with me. Overall I recommend transit motors to everyone because they get the job done.
