Hendryx No. 229 Antique Brass Stand w/ Vintage Gold Crown Bird Cage 65"

This is an especially decorative mixed-period bird cage display consisting of an antique Andrew B. Hendryx Co. No. 229 floor stand and a later Crown metal bird cage. A New Haven Museum example specifically identifies a Hendryx No. 229 stand with a circa-1910 cage-and-stand ensemble, while other documented No. 229 examples are attributed to the 1920s. The large oval/egg-shaped stand creates a dramatic architectural surround for the smaller gold-painted Crown cage. The combination reads particularly well as Hollywood Regency or eclectic decorative interior display, even though the cage and stand are probably not an original factory-matched set. Hendryx stands were intentionally designed as decorative furnishings and were sold separately in a variety of forms to coordinate with changing interior styles. Hendryx stand displays natural oxidation, patina, surface marks, discoloration, and finish variation. Stand remains visually impressive and supports the hanging cage as shown. Crown bird cage has scattered gold paint loss, rubbing, and surface wear. Cage door is spring loaded and remains open unless secured with a latch; a suitable latch is not currently installed. Interior cage components show expected age and use. Cage appears best suited for decorative/display purposes in its present condition rather than use for housing a live bird.
