Grateful Dead XXV Anniversary Coffee Mug W/vintage Rick Griffin Artwork - NEW

The artwork is classic Rick Griffin! This is an official Grateful Dead Merchandising coffee mug issued in 1990 to commemorate their XXV (25th) Anniversary. You don’t see these offered very often – it is 31 years old and in NEW condition. I bought it new in 1990 – and I have never used it! The imagery is quite stunning. The mug itself is white with the imagery on one side. In the center there is a brilliant blue background, with skeleton clad in a red robe overlaying the blue background. The skeleton has its left arm outstretched above his head holding what appears to be an image of Jerry Garcia’s famous Tiger – a guitar made for him by the master guitar maker Doug Irwin. Overlaid on top of this are letters GD – one of which is on each side of the robed skeleton. Then overlaying the GD are the Roman numerals XXV to commemorate the Dead’s 25th Anniversary. Overlaying all of this is the skeleton’s right arm holding a Grimm Reaper’s scythe! Finally, all of this imagery is circled by 25 stars also commemorating the 25th Anniversary. I am guessing that the purchaser will probably never use this as a mug and proudly display it as I have!
