Description
A image search indicates that this is an antique Dutch Zeeland silver filigree hatpin. While the "Zeeland knot" style has its origins in the 17th century as a decorative button, its specific use as a hatpin and peak popularity in this form align during the Victorian and Edwardian periods (late 19th to early 20th centuries). Hatpins with extra-long stems were necessary for the voluminous hairstyles of that era. The shadow box measures approximately 11 5/8” x 6 1/2” x 1 1/2” and the hatpin is in very good/excellent condition.
