Description
Small crack on front glass Split second timer. When you depress the crown (centre button in the 12 o'clock position) both large arms will start ticking. By pressing the button on the right (one o'clock position) one of these arms will stop and the other will continue so you can record a lap time for a horse. If you press the button on the right again, the stopped arm will catch up to the first arm and they will continue together simultaneously until you want to record another lap time. When the horse crosses the finish line you press the crown again and both of these arms will stop to record a final time for the race. Jerome Park Horse Timer movement is a movement patented by Ferdinand Bourquin in 1891. The Swiss patent is identified as No. 3071 and was granted on 30th January 1891. The US patent is identified as No. 458348 and was granted on 25th August 1891. The earlier 'Jerome Park' stopwatches only had one large arm to record one time measurement. The earliest serial number for these watches likely started from 151000. Split timer (Serial number 159000) developed a few year later as an advance in stopwatch technology - around 1(contact info removed). Ferdinand Bourquin went on to be the founder of the Leonidas Watch Factory before his death in 1905 "Jerome Park"is listed under the Gallet's stable of pocket watches and was manufactured by them for the American market. (Gallet is a watch manufacturing company based in Switzerland). Stopwatch got its name from Jerome Park - a horse racing track located in Brooklyn, New York that was owned and named after "The King of Wall St" Leonard W Jerome (1(contact info removed)) who was Winston Churchill's grandfather. The Jerome Park racetrack was in operation from 1866 to 1894. Ferdinand Bourquin was just starting out as an individual when he was creating this stopwatch for Gallet but as he became more established he went on to be the founder of the Leonidas Watch Factory before his death in 1905.
