Description
Rare Vintage 1940's African Stinkwood Unsigned Three Drawer Writing Desk Date Added Based On Only One Other I Found Online. African Stinkwood was added to endangered species in the late 90s. This desk is from sometime before that time frame. Does African Stinkwood Smell? African stinkwood has an unpleasant, strong odor only when its wood is freshly fallen or cut, which is where its name comes from. The smell comes from the Ocotea bullata (black stinkwood) and Celtis africana (white stinkwood) trees, which are distinct and not closely related. While dry lumber doesn't have this smell, the fresh timber of both species emits the offensive odor.
