To attend Mesa Community College (MCC) for free, students can apply for the Mesa College Promise program, which covers tuition and fees for eligible Mesa residents for up to two years. Additionally, students can explore external scholarships offered by organizations like the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation. Mesa College Promise: Eligibility: The Mesa College Promise is available to recent high school graduates and GED recipients who live in Mesa. Funding: It covers tuition and registration fees for up to two years, using a combination of FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) funds and scholarship resources, according to the program website. Additional Benefits: The program also provides a $250 stipend for books and transportation and access to academic advising and other support services, says KTAR News. Requirements: Students need a 2.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA and must demonstrate financial need. Full-Time Enrollment: Preference is given to students enrolled full-time (12 credits or more). External Scholarships: Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation: The Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation offers general scholarships to students within the Maricopa Community College system. Other Scholarships: MCC also has other scholarships available, including the Herman E. Hendrix scholarship for education majors and the Follett Bookstore Scholarship. Application: The Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation scholarship application window is typically open in the spring (March 1 - mid-April) and fall (September 1 - mid-October). Additional Tips: FAFSA: It's recommended to fill out the FAFSA, even if you plan to rely on the Mesa College Promise or other scholarships, as it helps determine financial need and eligibility for other aid. Scholarship Websites: Websites like Scholly, ScholarshipOwl, and FastWeb can help simplify the scholarship search process. Early College Programs: Students can explore early college programs like the ACE (Accelerated College Education) program to get a head start on college credits while still in high school.
