To N Carlton Hawkins Somerville, Mass Middlesex County  Friend Carlton, I was in hopes, I should of seen you before I came away but them Exciter Gals (damn the pen) are the gals for you.  I am out here 7 miles out of Chillicothe in a retired little place and I shall wait for you to come. Mr. Clyde with whom I am stopping? is going out to Peoria, Illinois about the 1st October. Peoria is about 14 miles from where pages folks live and if we wish to go north we can go right up to Milwaukee.  If you will come out here to Chillicothe I will meet you here I shall advise you to come. The best way for you to come is to take the cars for Albany then take the cars for Buffalo then the steamboat for Sandusky Ohio. At Sandusky take the cars for Mansfield then take the Stage for Columbus and Columbus take the stage for Chillicothe where I will meet you with a wagon and open arms I want you to write to me the day you propose to start so that I can meet you. If you would write when you receive this I shall have time to write home for 2 or 3 little things if you fetch a trunk I would like to have some more of my things I fetched a carpet bag. get some ½ dimes which go here for 6 cents. Massachusetts bills are hard to get rid of beyond Albany. I had $50 in gold if you will fetch me ½ dozen good steel pens it will be a great blessing. This is the only one we can raise in the house and the devil can not write with it. Write as soon as you receive this so I can write home before you start. Address Chillicothe S.O.  I shall expect you to come and I long to receive you.
