Description
The Flying Saucers As I Saw It...By Kenneth Arnold SIGNED Original 1950 UFO-Extremely RARE One of the true Holy Grails of all UFO Flying Saucer Memorabilia - in my opinion the very best of all early UFO items Original 1950 booklet publication personally produced and distributed by Kenneth Arnold in 1950 in defense of and in response to skepticism about his UFO sighting. After reportedly witnessing UFOs in 1947, and coining the term "flying saucers" to describe what he saw, and going public with his claims, Kenneth Arnold both peaked the interest of many others including some who saw similar phenomena, and at the same time made himself a target of non-believers. In response, he went to great lengths to properly communicate his experience, in his own words, and to assemble official documents and correspondence related that were supportive. This rare volume was personally sold by Kenneth Arnold to those interested, and though I have only seen pictures of several surviving copies (they are so rare), all of these were signed, so I assume that every one of the few copies sold was personally signed. I'm not sure if these were sold by mail or offered at small in-person lectures (or both) but judging by the extreme rarity, it was definitely printed and available only in very small numbers. 12 x 9 inches. 16 pages. Self-Published by Keneth Arnold. 1950. Beautiful condition, perfectly flat, Excellent. Strong signature. Obviously very well cared for over the past 75 years. There is no one more responsible for the popularization of flying of flying saucers in American culture than Kenneth Arnold. He is universally credited with the first widely reported modern unidentified flying object sighting in the United States, after claiming to have seen nine unusual objects flying in tandem near Mount Rainier, Washington on June 24, 1947. This 1950 self-published signed booklet by Kenneth Arnold is Ground Zero in the history and fascination and promotion of credibility (or pseudo-credibility for non-believers) of UFOs in American Popular Culture.I can't find another example for sale anywhere. It is a great and very significant item.
