I have tested this thoroughly. The playback of tapes works perfectly. You get everything you need to transfer your tapes. You will not need to purchase anything else. It does not seem to work creating new video. There is something wrong with the lens. It could be a setting, I don't know. So, this is great if you have some old tapes you want to transfer to a computer etc. But, if you want to make new videos, it may or may not accomplish that and is probably not a good choice for creating new videos on tape.
