Description

This tank is the perfect setup for a beginner reef/fish saltwater setup. Or if you have experience and want to upgrade, downsize, or get a second tank; this is the tank for you. Everything you need is included, and it is setup and livestock ready, no need to wait a month to cycle. The rule of thumb with saltwater is you want to start with a tank roughly 40-50 gallons. That way if you make a mistake, you have a larger volume of water to be able to buffer that mistake. The really small tanks are cool, and can be very easy, but if you mess something up, you have much less room for error. Not to mention, you get addicted, and you will quickly fill them up with things you want and run out of room. They are more for an experienced saltwater tank owner and better as a second or third setup. I have had this tank for many years. Several months ago, we had a mishap where one of my young children found the dial for the heater thermostat and turned it up all the way, nothing survived. I planned to restock it, but we decided to move and I’m sad to say, the tank will not be making the trip. I’m not going to lie, cleaning it up to get ready to sell made me sad, and my wife and I discussed keeping it, however we are in the process of furnishing our current home to rent out and we have nowhere to store this tank (running) in the meantime. After the fallout from the heater mishap, I cleaned out the debris, and turned the lights off to kill any nuisance algae that was in there. It has been running with the lights off for several months. So, you, will be buying a cycled, clean, disease and algae free system that is ready for any livestock you desire on day one. No waiting, for you impatient people. No buying fish you don’t want down the road just to put in there to cycle tank. Just this week I stirred everything up, netted out and remaining debris, vacuumed gravel, blew off the live rock, and did a 30% water change. This setup is very simple, which makes maintenance very simple. You will read more detail below in the Kalkwasser section, but to keep this tank (fish or reef) clean and healthy you are looking at minimal maintenance. Water top off, fill auto top off resevoir with 5 gallons of freshwater every 2-4 weeks; Filter socks, put a clean one in every 2-4 weeks (when down to you last one, throw all the dirty ones in the washer with bleach and water only, NEVER USE SOAP on anything that will be in, on or near the tank). Feed every couple days. Clean glass with magna float ever couple days. Empty protein skimmer cup once a month. -Setup and Equipment- Tank: 36L x 16W x 21T (Drilled returns and Center Overflow w/ acrylic full height overflow box (All Custom From Aquatic Warehouse) Stand: 38L x 16.5W x 30T (Wood, Black, from Aquatic Warehouse) Live Rock: Premium Tongan Live Rock, some still has some purple coralline algae Lights: -Programmable 2 CH (White and Blue, Blue channel has red and purple on it as well) LED Lights on custom adjustable hanger above tank -Stock Modes: Sunny, Cloudy, Manual, Custom -Programmable by the hour. I like to gradually have the lights come on in the morning (a little brighter each hour), then ramp down in the afternoon/evening. Simulating sunrise, sunset, and moonlight -No timer needed, its all in the lights Return and wavemaker pumps: - Return - Jebao DCP-6500 (DC power, variable speed, feed mode) -Wave – Jebao OW 10/20/40 Wavemaker (3 wave modes, high output, constant, variable speed, night mode, feed mode) Protein Skimmer: -Aquaristic Vertex 100 (German made, suitable for tanks up to 130 gallons) -Pump – Upgraded to DC, variable speed needle wheel pump Heater: Replaced old heater last week to a compact 250W with internal thermostat set to 78 Degrees, no more fiddling with thermostat dial and keeps kids from making your beautiful tank into a jacuzzi Auto Top Off: Black five gallon bucket with heavy duty screw on lid. Plumbed with ¼” PE tubing to shut-off valve, from that to float valve. Tools/Food/Supplements: - 2 nets (Med, Small), Foam glass scrubber, Metal extendable algae scraper - No suck siphon with gravel vacuum, extra siphon tubing - 8 filter socks to help polish water - Formula 1 and Formula 2 Marine Fish food - Saltwater water test kit - Toothbrushes for cleaning - Small ceramic knife for cutting up frozen food - Measuring spoons and syringe for dosing Kalwasser and Vinegar to top off water - Extra powerhead pump for cleaning (blowing off rocks, blowing out sump) - Magna float glass algae cleaner Kalkwasser (1 Gal Tub, full): Reef keeping carries a stigma of being very difficult and very high maintenance. One of the big things for coral is calcium. Kalwasser is an old tried and true method. If you mix a small solution of white vinegar and Kalkwasser and add that to your top-off, that coupled with monthly 10-20% saltwater changes is all the maintenance you need with exception of changing filter socks and scrubbing algae of glass.
