Description
A beautiful historical collectible piece from the past that still has many years of life and enjoyment. Iron has been cleaned and kept in good conditon. The sad iron pictured was likely made between the 1870s and the early 1900s. Sad irons, also known as flat irons, were used to press wrinkles out of fabric before the advent of electric irons. These irons were heated on a stove, and often came with detachable handles to prevent burns. The "sad" in sad iron comes from an old English word for "solid" or "heavy," referring to the iron's weight. This particular iron is marked with a number 7, which indicates its length, measuring 7 inches from the tip of its base to the end. 2 different Irons are available for purchase. Pickup near Marina airport. Meetup MAY be possible in Marina, Salinas, Monterey.
