Description
Solid oak single side pressed back rocking chair that was produced in the 1890s -1920s. The seat bottom is cross stitched and I’m told that the design would point towards a mommy and child, mommy and baby, or nursery rocking chair. The hardware looks to be original, save for a modern screw in one of the arm rests and a couple of tacks securing the seat cushion. The seat cushion obviously has a tear, but I’m also to understand that it may not be very difficult to fix or maybe put a border around the entire cushion. One of the back support spindles needs a little tightening or shimming. The armrest with the modern screw is a little loose, but with the correct replacement screw and some wood glue, it would probably be a solid as the rest of the chair (which is very secure and sturdy). I am about 6 foot tall and 215 pounds and the rocker has no trouble supporting my weight. Other than the few incorrect pieces of hardware and the tear in the cushion, this rocker is in amazingly good condition, and shows the right amount of patina for the period on the gorgeous solid oak.
