This stunning 7"-8", mid-century Silver and Ruby, Barovier & Toso Bullicante Murano art glass piece, gets much of its intensity from a generous amount of sterling silver leaf, incorporated into the pattern. Though the adhesive maker's label, that was the norm when this piece was made, to identify it as Barovier Murano, is long gone, the evidence of its authenticity is abundant. This pattern has been frequently imitated by fraudsters, due to its beauty and desirability. However, such imitations will be lacking in the heft provided by the thick, high-quality glass, and silver leaf, encased within. The bubble pattern on this piece speaks to its authenticity, in the precise and graduated nature of the pattern. The pontel mark, on the bottom, often rough and crudely executed in imitations, is smooth and finely finished on this genuine glass work. Then, too, the overall appearance of the piece is one of symmetry and vibrance. Murano glass has many distinctive hallmarks, but none so admires as the rich hues displayed by genuine Murano glass art.
