Description

Bucksport, April 10 1841? Dear Parents, You could think that we are in Boston by this time, but it's not so as you will see by the date of this. We left Bangor about 3 o clock with a fair wind which favored us til we reached Hampton Narrows, & then changed. We then broke the sail as far as Frankfort when we and about 6 o lock and anchored and remained there all night. The next morn about 7 got under way and her about 11 o clock. - not being able to get any further hauled into the wharf and shall not prehaps leave til tonight. The wind being dead ahead. About a dozen passengers on board. Theres females Miss Downs - old maid - and two young girls, daughters of Mr. Dudle, six mile falls - perhaps going to work in the Lowell factories. Yesterday aft all hands played ball, What we shall do day to day remains to be decided. Many vessels have passed us bound for Bangor. I have nothing further to communicate. Yours affectionately George (Played ball in the 1840s involved a game involving a ball, often in a recreational setting like a game of cricket or kickball)
