Description

Vintage Chinese Kang-Style Tea Table Set – Mid-20th Century (1930s–1950s) Beautiful Chinese Kang-style tea table set from the mid-20th century, crafted from solid hardwood with intricate hand-carved details, inlaid artwork, and four matching stools that nest neatly underneath. The tabletop features a detailed scenic inlay showing figures in a garden landscape with trees and flowers, made from a lighter material such as bone, shell, or ivory substitute. The apron has traditional openwork foliage carvings, and the legs end in claw-style feet — a hallmark of Kang tables. Originally used in Chinese homes as low tea or conversation tables, this design adapts beautifully to modern spaces as a coffee table, tea ceremony table, or decorative centerpiece. **Dimensions:** Table – approx. 21¼" tall x 36" diameter Stools – approx. 12¾" tall x 12" diameter each (all slide neatly underneath) **Condition:** Light paint loss on legs and rim near the glass top, minor scratches on the glass (replaceable if desired). The stools show small dents and finish wear but are sturdy and functional. The wood has slight blushing from age, adding vintage character. **Key Features:** * Hand-carved apron with scrolling openwork designs * Inlaid scenic top with figures and landscapes * Claw-style cabriole legs * Four matching nesting stools * Solid hardwood with warm mid-century patina **Background:** The Kang table originates from traditional Chinese interiors, where people gathered on cushions or low stools for tea and conversation. This export-era version blends authentic Chinese craftsmanship with timeless elegance. I’ve hosted many tea gatherings at this table and always received compliments on its beauty. Sadly, my current space is too small to keep it, so I’m hoping it finds a new home where it will be appreciated. **Price:** $150 – open to reasonable offers 📍 Salt Lake City, UT Pickup preferred (solid hardwood, sturdy piece)
