Description
This is a vintage/antique Mexican terracotta folk art pottery piece of a sitting figure/idol of Inca, Mayan, Aztec heritage. It is signed Mexico on the back side of the left leg. It is similar to a piece of pottery that was pulled from a cenote in Chichen Itza, in the eastern Yucatan. A cenote is a natural swimming hole formed when limestone collapses, revealing a hidden pool of water. While there are many different types of cenotes, the two most common are above-ground and underground. Dimensions are 7 inches tall by 3.75 inches wide by 4 inches deep. This sculpture is heavy for his size and in perfect condition.
