Description
The company is the successor to the Owens Bottle Company founded in 1903 by Michael Joseph Owens, who made the first automated bottle-making machine, and Edward Drummond Libbey. In 1929, the Owens Bottle Company merged with Illinois Glass Company to become Owens-Illinois, Inc. The Owens-Illinois Glass Company (known now as "O-I") quickly became the leading glass manufacturing operation in the bourbon-whiskey market. The Owens-Illinois Glass Company also manufactured bottles for medicine and pharmaceuticals. Their bottles are recognized by the trademark impression located on the bottom of the glass bottle. The raised embossed back mark on this bottle indicates it is a prescription bottle from the period of 1919 to the late 1920's. Stands 6 1/2" tall.
