Dear Cousin, I received your letter a long time ago & have neglected in writing - I am well and the rest of folks - we have had quite a good deal of snow but not enough for sleighing, they are a little snow on the ground now - it has been quite cold for two or three day but the sun shone? today is a nice day - pa took a load of hogs to Cherokee yesterday - we go to school when it is too cold for us to kusk? corn - we have 17 scholars - our district has enough scholars to build a new school house - pa and Mr Latham built the house that we keep school in - it takes 15 scholars to build a school house we have the bigest school that is a round here - our school will be out in a week - we havent hired any teacher yet for the winter school yet, I expected you will have a big time on thanksgiven day - I dont know what kind of time I will have - my birthday will be this Tuesday the 22nd of this month - I will be fifteen years old - I expect you have got so you go with a girl dont you - and when you write tell me her name - I can think of anything more to write so I will bid you good bye from our truley cousin Hannah Levee? to William Butler - when you write - write a good long letter and I will you I would like to come out there tell Aunt Maryet? we send out best love to her Union nov 20 1881 Erie O Brien Co Iowa Dear Cousin I received your letter and was glad to hear from you - we are well and hope these few lines will find you the same - we are hacking corn - we have 15 acres yet to pick - the weather is been cold a few days back but today it is warm - we have had 2 inches of snow but it is all gawn. father took 5 hohd to cherokee yesterday they maid 13.00 he got $5.40 us a hundred. we ha 102 bus of wheat 63 bus of flour and 50 bus of oats on our other place for our shair. we got $1.12 cts a bushel for flour?we got 110 hogs 150 chickens and 3 turkeys we have fatening 5 cows the new railroad is going 2 .5 miles north of where we live - the town is 5 miles north west - they are a working 12 miles - last now its name is the quincy north western RR. I wish you was out there we would have fun. I am 6'2 in tall. I must come to a close for this time rite soon from Jacob Levee to William Butler write soon Pick up in James Island near folly beach or shipping is turned on.
