Whether you’re a super-active fitness enthusiast or just someone who occasionally deals with some achy muscles and back tightness from sitting at work, a TENS unit can be a useful tool in anyone’s biohacking toolkit. Short for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, TENS can reduce pain and soreness by sending stimulating pulses across the surface of the skin and along nerve strands causing an increase in the production of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. It’s also a great tool for stimulating muscle groups and your vagus nerve or maybe just getting a nice massage effect. Notes from Chris: I found this unit when I was travelling in China a few months ago and immediately sent one to Dave to evaluate for the Biohacking Box. I love mine a lot! It’s a great relaxation tool along with the ability to stimulate specific areas of the body. To use it you should download the Dr Stim app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. The Dr Stim app is, well, translated from Chinese — so some of the language in it is bit weird. But if you ignore some of the more humorous non-english translations you’ll find this to be a great tool to use every day.
