Description
Stunning Vintage 1966 Kay 6150 “Rope” Grand Auditorium Mini Jumbo Acoustic Guitar in Excellent Restored Condition, made in Chicago, USA., ready to tune up and play on arrival! This guitar also has a K&K pure mini pickup ($99 value) installed under the bridge so it’s ready to be plugged into an amp as well. There is also a strap button the neck that has been installed. This is a rare and special old guitar in really great condition that is ready to play. Haha really cool old dry sound and such a great vibe to it! No case with this guitar. This is Kay’s follow up to the late 50s, early 60s model 6116 Grand Auditorium “Rope” Acoustic Guitar. Like the 6116, the 6150 features checkered binding around the top and sound hole, a solid spruce top and curly maple back and sides. It has a bound Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, adjustable truss rod w/ original cover, original brass wide/low frets with a triangular metal Kelvinator headstock emblem. This beauty has a stunning cherry burst finish and all of it’s parts are original. It has received a pro neck reset and a new hand carved bone saddle for optimum playability. The bridge was reglued and came stock with a three bolt attachment. It has a 15-1/2” body with a 1-5/8” nut and a 25-5/8” scale length. The original nut is working fine, although it has a chip on the low E side. There is a typical turndown of the fretboard extension at the body after the reset. The neck is smaller and more comfortable than most 6116s and the truss rod is working fine. The 3-on-a-plate open back tuners are in great working shape and also original to the guitar. There are no cracks or crack repairs, with the exception of a tiny repaired center seam separation above the sound hole and two very small cracks on either side of the nut that don’t show any movement. The binding is fantastic and one small spot on the bottom rear shows a tiny repaired piece. The action is great, set at about 5/64” to just over 3/32” @ 12th fret with plenty of room for any future adjustments with the tall saddle and perfect neck angle, set up with new 80/20 brass 11-52 strings. The frets show nearly zero wear and were polished up to be a slick player. The top is nice and flat with no bulging or bellying and just a few minor nicks and scratches. There are a few small scratches on the sides and around the edges of the headstock. The wings of the headstock are show distinct lines with no movement or repairs. This is a wonderful sounding guitar with a big booming voice, plenty of volume and sustain with a crisp attack and balanced tone. This model is much more rare than the 6116 and this is by far the cleanest one I’ve come across. Thanks for looking at this amazing guitar!
