Description
CUSTOM EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PORTABLE SOLAR WATER HEATER I only have a handful of these units left, including the prototype. I designed this unit about a year ago specifically for times like these, just hoped it would never happen and look at us now... This can also be used for camping but my main objective was for prepping purposes (bathing and reconstituting freeze dried food, etc.). The solar water panel is fed using a small 12-volt DC pump connected to an attached PV solar panel. You do not need to provide anything other than water and partial to full sunlight for the system to start to work. [Patent on design is pending] The unit is attached to a hand cart for extra mobility. If needed, you can prop items underneath the panel to obtain desirable sunlight. Be careful not to tilt too far horizontal or run with too little water as this may stop the flow of water to the pump and possibly destroy the pump. The advantage of this unit for preparedness-minded individuals is that it does not generate smoke or noise like a campfire or generator would. These methods may draw unwanted attention to yourself if times are tough and someone else is desperate for resources that you have. That and a generator requires fuel to be stored, and a fire can turn dangerous rather quickly in our region. Unit has a ¼-turn water valve to gravity-feed water from, disconnect the pump’s electrical connector when extracting water using this valve. CAUTION: Water gets hot if not monitored, much hotter than most people prefer their bath water. Always leave the vent open on the stainless steel tank when in operation and provide adult supervision when in use. Keep the tank at least ¾ full to avoid dry-motoring the pump, especially when tilting the unit for better sunlight. PERFORMANCE: Will heat 5 gallons of 70 degree F water to: -115 degrees F in 2 hours under full sun and 80 degree F ambient air temp. -123 degrees F in 3 hours under full sun and 80 degree F ambient air temp. -130 degrees F in 4 hours under full sun and 80 degree F ambient air temp. Will work in cold and even freezing weather as well, you simply need liquid water (not frozen to begin with) and some measure of sunlight for the system to perform (Does not have to be full sunlight. Obviously the more direct sunlight, the better the results). SPECIFICATIONS: -Approximate Dimensions: 24”W 35”H 10”D -Approximate Weight: 15 pounds empty, 60 pounds full -Lead-free brass fitting used -Operating Noise: less than or equal to 45db -Maximum Flow Rate: 3gpm -Capacity: 5 gallon stainless steel water tank (jerry can) -Working Adjustment Angle (on level ground): 90 degrees upright to approximately 15 degrees horizontal (remember to keep tank at least ¾ full when tilting horizontally to avoid dry motoring the pump. If you see water weeping from open vent plug, you tilted it to far so simply correct the angle until there is no longer any water weeping out). I have 4 units available at the price of $800 each. I have my prototype unit available for the cost of parts involved, $620. This unit works just fine however I was experimenting with sweat fittings and a slightly different plumbing configuration. I will provide you any available paperwork that I have on the parts if you purchase (datasheets etc.)
