Artist Bio- Path of Life Artist's Bio Jackie Woodward, ArtistI was born in South Dakota where my Mother taught school on the Rosebud Reservation (Lakota Sioux Indians) in a one-room schoolhouse. We moved to Oregon when I was a small child. I grew up in Portland and was a member of the Oregon Society of Artists and exhibited paintings there and at business and other special events. I worked at Tektronix for seven and a half years and started and supervised a small Graphic Arts Support Group in the Field Engineer Training dept in Marketing. In 1966 I moved to California and began working for Lockheed as a electrical/mechanical design engineer and in my spare time I began studying welding, sculpting, investment casting, jewelry making (both fabricated and cast) and studied ceramics both slab and wheel. In 1990 I retired early and began exhibiting at Art and Wine Festivals in California and Nevada. I exhibited at shows in the San Francisco Bay area, Monterey Bay area and Nevada. I sold painted silks (scarves, garments and yardage for doll makers) and designed and sold quilts and other sculpted fabric items including dolls. I later joined the "Flying Phoebes Doll Club" and over a period of years I branched out into "one of a kind" sculpted clothed character dolls of polymer and air-drying clays. I made all of their clothing and props and used my hand dyed silks for embellishments. I began studying more sculpting from the human form in 1997 through the "Palo Alto Art League" in an effort to hone my skills in anatomy and I have completed quite a few pieces from live models most of which have been exhibited. I moved back to Oregon in August of 1999 and am currently residing in Hillsboro, Oregon. I joined the Pacific Northwest Sculptors group in the fall of 2002 and have become an active exhibiting member. I served two years on the Board of Directors, and was member of the Finance Committee and presently I am the Chair of the Events Committee. Beginning in the spring of 2003 I began attending a foundry class studying bronze casting and studied this process for three semesters. I have also been working with "Oregon Carving Stone" and casting/pouring finished pieces with "Hydra-stone" and Bronze. PRESENT 2010 I am Painting in acrylics. I started my art career painting and am very happy generating some recent paintings for the first time in many years. I am working mostly with water based clays, making my own stamps for the clays and prints and making abstract organic shapes with carvings and textural interest. I incorporate symbolism from Native Americans and cave paintings plus many pieces with an Asian Influence . I joined the Oregon Potters Association and exhibited at the OPA Showcase April 24, 25 and 26th 2009 at the Portland Convention Center. Check out my work in the Oregon Potters photo gallery.
