Still has the plastic on the front of the DVD player This is a Dolby 5.1 complete system (just add speakers) that will power and play front, center and surround speakers plus a subwoofer. This was designed as a beginning home theater complete setup but the DVD player is the same fantastic one used in their very expensive setups. It does have amps built in and outputs for all 6 channels. I would not recommend the passive sub for this setup as it is small and while it does add a lot more bass to the tiny speakers, its not a true subwoofer. For under $100 you can get a powered sub that will rattle your windows if you shop around used. I usually have a few. To add speakers directly to this, you need the plugs/wires. The entire set of 6 is only $14 if you want to add speakers. I have the surrounds and center channel by Yamaha so all you need to add is a pair of front speakers or use what you have. As a Blu Ray and standard DVD player this is fantastic. You can rent anything at Redbox and if you havent seen Blu-Ray or 3D DVD on a truly fine large TV you will fall over. This lets you play all those DVDs you have and rent, plus if you ever get a great TV, you are ready. All the specs are typical DVD.....no distortion, perfect sound and if possible, attach to your TV with HDMI.
