3” vintage chunky gold toned butterfly 16”choker “This fabulous chunky gold-tone butterfly necklace was made by Alva Museum Replicas (1948–1990), designed by Alva Studios and operated by Alfred Wolkenberg. Wolkenberg was born in Vienna in 1911 and immigrated to the US in 1939. In 1948 he founded Alva Studios of Long Island City, NY. He had many artists and designers who were commissioned to produce reproductions of ancient jewelry and sculpture. All the pieces were marked Alva Museum Replicas and sold at museums worldwide. This necklace features a large, gold-plated butterfly pendant attached to a link chain. Signed "SI Alva Museum Replicas" on the back. The butterfly is a symbol of birth, which makes it a great gift for the person embarking on a new journey.”
