Description
The bulldog is an unofficial mascot of the U.S. Marine Corps, symbolizing the Marines' indomitable spirit. The first bulldog mascot was named Chesty in 1957 after Lewis "Chesty" Puller. The current mascot is Chesty XVI. Chesty's duties include attending parades and drills, and participating in community events. Before Chesty, a series of bulldogs were named Smedley in honor of Brigadier General Smedley D. Butler.
