Description
A superb late 18th to early 19th century solid walnut chest of drawers, distinguished by its glowing grain and deep patina The form presents a solid framed top above two short drawers over three long graduated drawers, each retaining the original knob handles. Raised on refined outswept bracket feet. Fine details include: inlaid escutcheon locks on every drawer, cockbeaded edges, and a walnut-banded top panel that speaks to the cabinetmaker’s eye and talent. The drawers are a testament to quality craftsmanship. Built from dense, slow-growth pine with sides, bottoms, and backs cut from equally thick stock. Remarkably, they slide with ease. Drawer liners preserved the interiors, leaving them in excellent condition. Condition is remarkable for its age, with minor surface wear consistent with use. One interior lock is absent from the third drawer, though functionality remains unaffected. Structurally, the piece is sound and ready for another century of enjoyment. Dimensions 40.5” W × 20.25” D × 42.75” H
