Description

1961 Olson Grumman Kurb Side step van, made in Athen New York. by AEROBILT for the J.B.E. Olson corporation, New York, 19. N.Y. The all Aluminum and almost dent free van body was bead blasted and polished and all flat glass was replaced. The body was unbolted, hoisted, cleaned and then professionally mounted onto an appropriately shortened 1982 chevy C30 Chassis rails. This newer Chassis was totally renovated with new power steering, power brakes, new fuel lines, new electrical wiring harness. A rebuilt 305 small block Chevy engine, with a Holley Sniper EFI, a new 700R4 automatic transmission, with a toggle switched overdrive, a rebuilt chevy truck rear end with a 4:10 gear ratio. This combination produces 78 MPH at 2500 rpm in 4th gear. (94 mph at 3000 rpm) The wheel base is 108”, the total length is 16’6” the width is 6’6” The interior Stand-up head room is 72” The drivers seat and tilt mount was retained. A swiveling passenger seat with seat belt and shoulder harness was added. The roof panels were removed and refinished after lining the aluminum surfaces with 3M 2552 sound deadening foil tape, the panels were insulated and rehung with their aluminum retaining strips. A system of cabinets, closets, drawers, bookcase, sink (with its own water supply and gray water disposal tank)with built in stove and a convertible couch/ bed was constructed from lightweight aircraft honeycomb fiberglass routed panels using Dupont epoxy. The cabinet system was skinned with birch and mounted to the aluminum walls using 1/4 /20 elevator bolts adhered with JB weld 2 part epoxy. The cabinetry is entirely removable. At the rear of the vehicle out the 190° swinging double doors there is a short diamond plate deck built over the two battery compartment with a marine battery selector switch. Also located in the “deck” is a refillable propane tank with a dual quick release fitting to use the deck as an outdoor cooking location. There is also a welded two bicycle rack which allows the doors to be fully opened without removing the bikes.
