The rails can not be raised or adjusted. You have to adjust the mattress. Just take one rail off and it is convertible to a toddler bed. It can be converted to a full size bed with purchase of full size bed rails. A crib mattress from "Sealy" is included with a zipped mattress case cover. This is a very beautiful crib.
