Micranthemum tweediei is more commonly known as "Monte Carlo" in the plant keeping community. This tiny specimen was first described in 1846 by George Bentham, a botanist from England. He found it in Argentina, but it grows on riverbanks and floodplains in much of South America, including southern Brazil and Uruguay. Bentham named this species in honor of John Tweedie, one of the first botanists to explore Argentina.
