Steven Huneck Hand Carved Folk Art Dog Bench Circa 1990s

Hand carved Folk Art bench in the form of a Labrador retriever by the celebrated Vermont artist and wood carver Stephen Huneck, ca. 1990s. Huneck was a fascinating wood carver, painter, antiques dealer and author who devoted much of his later work to all things dogs. After a disastrous fall in his St. Johnsbury studio, he credited his dogs with bringing him out of a lengthy coma and began work next door on a chapel and 150 acre park dedicated solely to canines. Huneck and his wife Gwen held a festival each year at “Dog Mountain” until his untimely death in 2010. Gwen passed three years later, but their legacy lives on in the art and furniture that Stephen created.
