Description

MTX AAL 2230 Monster Home stereo speakers - $195 (Spokane Valley) make / manufacturer: MTX AAL model name / number: 2230 Better pics coming soon These speakers were made when MTX ventured into home audio for a short time after buying out American Acoustic Laboratories. There's one goal with this speaker and that is to produce lots of sound from all frequencies. Dual 12" drivers, mid and horn tweeter from a tall and very heavy cabinet. I've run these with low end receivers and high powered expensive units and either way, these can be obnoxiously loud. Even though they are a great party speaker they still have nice clear and very musical sound. Oh and lots and lots of low end when you need it. The cabinets aren't perfect with some flaws but over all they do not look bad at all. These would make a phenomenal start to a home theater set up or an even better garage/work shop speaker. Just know they are very heavy and did not fit in my trunk when I got them a while back. I have way too much stereo gear and need to thin my collection. I have a monster Onkyo Home Theater receiver too if you'd like to make a package deal of some type. Please note, these are NOT crappy "white van" speakers. If you're not familiar with that term, spend some time on google for more info. Possible trades for ?? Who knows. Email or text is best $195. Here's a review I pulled off the internet about these speakers from an article about the top 5 party speakers of all time. These were rated #1 " 1. AAL/MTX 2230B Dual 12" Behemoth are the hardest rockin' speakers ever! I bought my first pair of these beasts in the summer of 92. I lived in an apartment complex on campus and the neighbors across the hall had a fancy bose system with a sub that they played awful country music on, LOUD! Well after a couple of days I couldn't take it. I went to the local stereo specialty shop and asked for the loudest speakers they had and without hesitation the salesman led me to these. Back the MTX had an even worse reputation than it does today and at the price, 669 1992 dollars I thought I was being scammed and almost left. But The salesman informed me that MTX had recently bought out American Acoustic Laboratories. When he pulled off the grills sure enough they were labeled AAl with all AAL drivers. MTX Just rebadged the grills of all the AAL already built stock. I was familiar with the 3-way single 12" AALs as they were, and still are the juke box speakers in most of the bars where I live 30 Years Later. Well I took them home and hooked them up to my little Marantz 35 wpc receiver and waited. As soon as I heard the the Travis Tritt kick in I responded with a barage of Frank Zappa. These speakers were so loud not only could we not even slightly hear their precious bose system, They could barely hear it in their own apartment over the thunderous bass and baritone sax of Zappa's We Are Not Alone. A few years later I sold them to a friend when I moved. He still has them. I attempted to buy a replacement pair but by that time MTX had switched to a cheaper mid-range and cossover set up. Theses are easy to spot as the AAL logo is removed from the front panel of the speakers an replaced with the MTX logo. Not only is the bass deep, tight and pounding the mids and highs are surprisingly smooth, and wit attention to placement the soundstage is wide an airy. I found a pair on ebay a few years ago and jumped on them. I now power them with a mid 90's Yamaha receiver rated at 55 wpc and have had N.W.A. through them at FULL VOLUME with no audible distortion! These aren't B&Ws or Magnepans but they rock harder than any speaker I've heard this sight of professional sound reinforcement equipment. Well I may have let my sentimental side cloud my objectivity but if you want to rock you can't go wrong with any of these choices.
