Peachtree Grand Pre X-1 Audiophile Pre Amplifier

Upgraded my system so this stellar Pre Amp/DAC combo has to move to a new home. Considering the ESS Sabre32 9018 DAC is a phenomenal reference chip, add in a stellar headphone amplifier, as well as balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs, and an optional tube stage, this is a steal compared to buying the individual components separately. Sorry to see it go, it’s been a wonderful part of the collection since it was first released! I put it conservatively at a 8/10 due to a few small marks, but they aren’t noticeable unless you’re within a foot or two of the player. The Grand-Pre is 24bit/192ksps DAC, Switchable hybrid tube preamp, and can be used as a stand-alone DAC, Preamp, and/or headphone amp. The following is a cut and paste from a various sites that summarizes its capability: The Grand Pre preamplifier that includes a 12AX7-based tube buffer stage (the tube stage can be bypassed for pure solid-state operation), a digital-to-analog converter designed around the ESS Sabre32 9018 DAC chipset, and a headphone amp. The Grand Pre’s digital inputs are all 24/192 capable and include: coaxial (2), optical (2), BNC (1), and asynchronous USB (1). The Grand Pre has single-ended (RCA) and balanced (XLR) analog inputs and outputs, and there is a Home Theater Bypass mode. ESS Saber32 DAC Chipsets and Class A Dual Mono Preamplifier Grand Pre uses the ESS Saber32 DAC chipsets, entirely removing jitter and making the most of your digital music files—no matter where they originate. The dual mono preamplifier is a Class A amplifier stage, yielding deep black backgrounds, three-dimensional soundstages, and never-quit dynamics. 24-bit/192k-Capable USB It's 24-bit/192k capable, accepting 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, and 192khz sampling rates, and uses the latest in asynchronous communication. The latter ability allows the Grand Pre’s internal high-precision clock to control the flow of data coming from the computer. This method lowers incoming jitter so the Sabre DAC has less timing errors to re-clock. The galvanic isolated input eliminates noise generated by your computer's switching power supply and greatly improving the sound quality. Dual-Mono Gain Control, Class A Output Stages, and Bascom King Tube Buffer The preamp is designed to maintain the quality of the digital-to-analog conversion through a short signal path avoiding noise and signal loss. Switch from custom tube-based preamp circuitry to solid-state with a simple touch of the remote. A dual mono gain control, measuring .025db channel to channel, creates pinpoint imaging. Its wide dynamics and black backgrounds are created by discrete Class A output stages with up to 18V output. The Bascom King hybrid tube buffer design utilizes two musically legendary 12AU7s. The tube buffer smooths the harsh digital edge found in poor recordings and compressed audio. A tube bypass button, found on the remote control, allows for solid state or hybrid tube listening modes.
