The Waterbury Co. offered the Ogee in 30-hour and eight-day movements in pine cases veneered in either mahogany or rosewood. This particular clock (26" x 15 ½"), with its time and strike movement, has the addition of a 'baker's alarm', and is dated approximately 1864. OG Clock Started in 1839 for the first prototype Ogee clock, It was produced for Clancy Jerome and his brother Noble Connecticut. Jerome needed a simple one-day clock could be produced far more cheaply than those with wooden movements at the time. Brass movements were more robust, could be transported easily and were unaffected by humidity. The simple case added to the movement was the Ogee named for its "S" shaped moldings. The success of the Ogee clock convinced other makers that there was a lot of money to be made in clock production. On March 5, 1857, the Waterbury Clock Company was formally incorporated. The first listing of Waterbury Clock Company clocks was published in 1867 in a catalog distributed by The American Clock Company, New York sales agency, who represented many other clock manufacturers as well.
