The Land Rider Auto Shift is a bicycle with a rear derailleur that automatically shifts gears based on the speed of the wheel: How it works A pulley attached to the wheel spins a belt that turns another pulley connected to the rear derailleur. As the wheel spins faster, two weights are pulled apart by centrifugal force, which moves the cage over and shifts the bike into a higher gear. When the bike slows down, the weights move closer together and shift the bike into a lower gear. Features The Land Rider Auto Shift has a 14-speed drive train and dual suspension. The fron derailleur is controlled manually by a grip shifter on the left handlebar. History The Land Rider Auto Shift was first sold in the U.S. in the mid-to-early 2000s. TV ads for the bike targeted the fitness and leisure industries.
