Description

Official U.S. Marine Corps Photos. Set No.2. 20 photos of the Saipan Operation. June 16, 1944. Set with original package. These are 4" X 5" photos. They are numbered 1-20. Most of the photos have excellent content including tanks, flak damage, guns, artillary, bomb explosions, Saipan ruins, civilians, etc.. The photos are in good condition. This famous South Pacific WWII battle was for the Mariana Islands occupied by the Japanese. T were some heavy casualties on both sides. T were 2,949 Americans killed, 10,364 wounded and 24,000 Japanese killed. Even the last 2 Japanese commanders committed heri-kari in a cave after the island was secured by US forces. Great Historic Value.
