Description

Vintage from the 1950s RARE Cold War era Fallout Detector. An interesting gadget from around 1950s Cold war era. Made by the Minutemen Industries Inc. Chicago, Illinois in the 1950s. The top of the detector gives the following instructions: "Shake gently until some beads float. Seek Shelter at once if all beads drop. Remain in shelter until some beads float." Luckily when I shook the detector gently most of the beads floated! There are signs of age on this item, but nothing major. Made of plastic and measures about 2.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It was advertised as a "citizens civil defense instrument".
