Description

Unique, authentic Randolph Johnston Bronze Sculpture (#6 of 8), called “Terror” This authentic Randolph Johnston bronze sculpture called “Terror” is number six of eight made. The original was carved in wood by the artist in the United States around the late 1940s and then in 1981, it was cast in bronze in the artist’s factory in Little Harbour in the Abacos Islands, using a 5,000-year-old wax process. The bronze factory is still the only one in The Bahamas today. The sculpture was purchased in the Bahamas by a private owner in 1985 for approximately $5,000 (and has remained with that owner for the past 35 years). According to Heather Moore Johnston of the Johnston Arts Foundry in Little Harbour, Bahamas, this statue is currently valuated at approximately $6,500. About the artist: A sculptor of allegorical figures, illustrator and craftsman, Randolph Johnston, born in Toronto, Canada, was also a long-time teacher at Smith College in Northhampton, Massachusetts. He also started a foundry and sculpture studio in 1951 at Little Harbour on Abaco Island in the Bahamas, which, after his death on December 18, 1992, continues to be operated by his son (Pete) and grandsons. Both father and son’s work is known worldwide and can be seen in such places as the Vatican’s Museum in Rome, Rawson Square in Nassau and many domestic and international art galleries. Johnston was educated at Central Technical School in Toronto, the University of Toronto, the Ontario College of Art, the School of Arts and Crafts in London, and the Royal Canadian Academy. He was author and illustrator of several books on crafts and direct casting of sculpture. Please review the photos carefully. You can see some minor wear on the base, but the sculpture itself is in perfect condition. This sculpture is clearly a distinctive and unique item. It deserves a distinctive and unique, new owner that appreciates its creator and its history. A story about the Johnston family appeared in the Sun Sentinel in November of 1986. You can find it using a google search. The sculpture weighs approximately 17 pounds, including its base. It is approximately 11 inches in height x 11 inches in width x 6 inches in depth. Shipping is possible and negotiable. $2,999 or best offer. Please feel free to contact me for more information. Thank you.
