pair of polychrome carved wooden figural candleholders,

pair of polychrome carved wooden figural candleholders, executed in a Baroque revival style and most likely dating to the late 19th to early 20th century rather than the 18th century. The composition, with standing putti or youthful figures holding spiral columns, draws directly from Southern European ecclesiastical models, especially Italian and Spanish Baroque altar decoration. However, the carving quality, the generalized facial features, and the applied painted and gilded surface indicate later workshop production rather than 18th century hand carving. The base construction, visible wood panel underside, and uniformity between the two figures further support a later decorative or devotional reproduction rather than period originals. PICKUP 92805
