It is with saddened heart that I come to all of you, having to part ways with two dear friends since my 1970s high-school days: My trusty Thorens TD 145 turntable (oh how many times have you spun “All Things Must Pass”?) and its essential sidekick, the inimitable Marantz 2270 receiver (70-watt tuner, pre-amp, and power amp). These two have buoyed me in times of trouble, lulled me to sleep more than I ever deserved, and kicked my ass a time or two when I needed it (not unlike my lovely wife, who is making me sell these). Alas. I’m ready to pass them on (well, not my wife; she’s not really ‘making’ me do this!) to a worthy audiophile, one who will cradle and care for them as I have lo these many years, for they will return the favor twentyfold. Trust these folks instead: “You can’t really go wrong with a Marantz 2270 receiver. It has ample power to run most any speaker setup. It has excellent all-round performance as well as an iconic vintage style and values will probably do nothing but go up.
