Description

I am selling this rare patriotic antique coverlet that was woven by Jacob Shalk in 1934, and was bought by my friend at an antique store in Los Angeles in the early 1960s. This is wonderful Pre Civil War American Blanket. The coverlet is 2 - sided with an off-white ground on one side, and a red ground on the other. The 2 pieces are a bit off register where they were seamed together, and there is inconsistency with the fringes on the left and right side, as well as some damage on one side where the thread has become loose (as seen in photos) Overall this coverlet is clean and has no stains Dimensions: 96" long (8 feet) x 79" wide Colors: RED WHITE & BLUE Maker: Jacob Shalk R + R MILLE 1834 Thanks for the interest! The coverlet's maker, Jacob Shalk, became an active weaver in Pennsylvania in the 1830s and in Ohio between 1840 and 1850. Professional weavers -- such as Jacob Shalk, who made this Coverlet - often mounted their looms with the Jacquard attachments on a wagon that traveled from community to community. At each stop, farmers who had harvested their own wool or created their own linen yarn from flax plants brought the already home-dyed material to the itinerant weavers to turn into coverlets. - - - - designer, decor, 1stdibs, early, americana, bedroom, living, room, shabby, chic, 4th of july, nice!
