Description
This vintage photograph features a matronly woman adorned in elegant jewelry and subdued but fashionable attire. The high-quality black and white image is printed on cardboard and paper, and measures 4" x 2 1/2". The portrait-style photograph, taken by George W. Wilcox, is an original carte de visite (CDV) from the 1880s. The photographer, George W. Wilcox, operated his studio in Oconto, WI. and produced a full range of images, including funeral processions, studio portraits, logging camp scenes and individuals, farm families on site, stereo optic images, natural disasters and postcards. After the family moved to city of Oconto in 1872, George and his son, Frank, set up the photographic studio. He remained in business until his death in 1886. The image captures a moment in Americana history, showcasing the fashion and style of the time.
