Description

Holi is a joyous Hindu festival celebrated in India and Nepal, known as the "Festival of Colors." It falls in spring, usually in March, and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of a new season. During Holi, people sprinkle each other with colorful powders, dance, sing and celebrate together in the streets. It is also a time of reconciliation, forgiving past grudges and strengthening family and community ties. The holiday has its roots in Hindu mythology, especially the legend of the demoness Holika and the god Krishna. Holi is celebrated not only in India, but also in other parts of the world where there are Hindu communities. On the reverse of the silver coin, we see the walking goddess Liberty in an altered purple color. The entire background is covered with a colorful irregular print alluding to the colorful powders that are thrown at the participants of the holiday. In the right part we can see a symbol denoting in Hindi the said holiday. The obverse features one female festival participant with a bowl of colored powder, which she is about to sprinkle on someone.
