Set of 4 Vintage Hillsdale Counter-Height French Provincial Antiqued Shabby Chic Chairs — Country Cottage, Farmhouse, Boho, Cabin, Eclectic, Maximalist This is a beautiful set of chairs made by the Hillsdale Company. They’re still around, but only a pale imitation of what they used to be. Previously, they made very high-quality, stylish furniture, including pieces like this beautifully distressed set of chairs. I believe these were made in the ’90s, back when they were still producing great stuff. One look and you’ll see that. Solid wood — possibly teak. No cheap particle board here. Full disclosure: they’re rather heavy. Still light enough for one person to handle, but be forewarned — you’re not going to toss these around or break them easily. Martha Stewart couldn’t have done any better. These look like they were plucked out of a cottage in the French Provincial countryside — or perhaps Martha Stewart’s coastal retreat. The backs feature a carved fleur-de-lis giving it a charming antique French touch. The paint scheme is high quality and great looking. And the beauty is, if you scratch them a little while moving, who’s going to know? Despite their appearance of age and patina, they’re in great shape — sturdy and solid. There is one leg with a visible crack (shown in the photos). I believe it was built that way, as this is likely all salvaged wood and the paint seems to have been applied afterward. The crack doesn’t go all the way through, and the leg is still quite sturdy. That said, you could add a little glue and clamp it overnight if you’re concerned. Perfect for your country cottage, coastal cottage, eclectic, maximalist, Bohemian, or Grandmillennial décor. You’ll fall in love every time you look at these chairs — they just have so much character. Please note: these are counter-height chairs. They’re too tall for a standard dining-height table, although the legs could be cut down if desired. They’re also too short for a bar-height table or counter. They’re designed to be the perfect height for a typical kitchen island or peninsula overhang, or a table specifically made to be counter height (about 36"). Measurements are in the photos.
