Pair of Large 17.5" Vintage African-Style Shadow Box Framed Mask Sculptures

A striking, coordinated pair of large vintage mid-to-late 20th-century shadow box wall art pieces. Brought over from travels more than 30 years ago, this highly decorative set showcases miniature three-dimensional African-style masks mounted against a rich black velvet backdrop, creating incredible visual depth and contrast. The frames themselves are works of art, featuring elaborate cutouts and engravings. Design & Artistry: Each miniature mask is sculpted with narrow features, almond-shaped eyes, and long, straight noses. They are highly embellished with intricately embossed gold-toned patterns and dotted metalwork across the foreheads and cheeks. The masks are centered against a deep black velvet background, which is framed by a light textured woven-pattern border. Frame Details: The substantial outer wooden frames are finished in an elegant matte black lacquer, intricately carved with a combination of incised cream-colored geometric lines and openwork cutouts. The left and right borders of each frame feature beautiful relief-carved tribal figures in traditional dress with terracotta-red highlights.
